In August 3, 2003 9,500 people evacuated from a threatening forest fire near Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Several Thousand more told to leave their homes in the Crows Nest Pass area of the Canadian Rockies. Many homes and businesses have been destroyed. Among the business casualties is a sawmill operation near Kamloops that was totally burned out This was the main source of income for the community where the mill operated. In addition, the fire has ravaged the mill's source of raw material. Once it gets back into operation it will be necessary to truck logs from further away adding to costs and putting more pressure on already tight operating margins. There is not word whether this business had a Business Recovery Plan. In the Crows Nest Pass the area coalmines have been hampered because many of the employees have had to leave work to evacuate their families. As well, the mines may also be threatened. Even if there is no fire damage, production will have suffered. Much of this production is committed in long-term contracts with "failure to deliver" penalties. It is critical for these businesses to serve their customers to avoid loss of market share and extended reduction of sales. These mines are the main source of income for most of the threatened communities. | Please tell us what you think about our web site, company, products, or services.
